City is the fifth WORST uni for student experience, according to damning survey
City has been named one of the country’s worst universities for student experience in a damning new survey.
The university was ranked 109th by the Times Higher Education poll – 10 places lower than last year.
Only four universities fared worse, with the likes of Middlesex University and the University of Bedfordshire overtaking City.
Students were particularly critical of City’s sports facilities, which had a shamefully low rating of 3.7 out of 10, while the cost of food and drink on campus scored 3.8.
Last month, Students’ Union president-elect Issy Cooke suggested that Sodexo, the university’s caterers, might be breaking their contract by pricing food too high.
Accommodation scored 3.9, down from 4.2 in 2014.
As revealed by The Square, students living at Pure City – where rooms cost up to £540 a week – have been regularly let down this year.
Social life at City also came under fire, scoring 4.4 – compared to an average of 5.5 countrywide.
The Students’ Union, which pledges to ensure “you have the best overall experience at City”, also fared badly, with a rating of 4.6.
The university scored below 5.0 in six other categories: atmosphere, activities and societies, support and welfare, and personal requirements being catered for.
Union president Rima Amin told The Square: “As a union we continuously lobby the university to invest in more social spaces, services and student-led activity.
“Regardless of what the survey says, it has been a great year at City for student experience and I have no doubt it will continue to improve.”
Correction: An earlier version of this story claimed City was rated the fourth worst university for student experience, when it was actually rated the fifth worst. The Square would like to apologise to the four universities that could have been led to believe their rating was better than City’s before this correction.

If there are four worse universities in the survey, then that would make City the fifth worst one, not the fourth.
