I would like to inform The Square about what I saw at the SU Office today. Under the rules of elections being ‘free and fair’, no candidate is not allowed to have access to resources that other candidates do not have. In relation to the current Presidential race, it means Yusuf, the current VP Activities, who is running for President is not allowed to be in the SU Office as this is an unfair advantage to his competitor Monwar. However, what I witnessed today, at 11.25am Wednesday 17th February 2016, in campaign period, Yusuf was clearly in the SU office and I have photographic evidence of this.

I believe this constitutes a clear violation of SU regulations and is a clear disadvantage to Monwar. As a firm supporter of democratic values, I believe The Square has an obligation to let all students know that there are very dubious practices at hand and the current Presidential race is very bias towards Yusuf. I can understand that sometimes candidates may, in the heat of competition, overstep certain SU regulations that deserve warnings. However, this is a serious violation and the fact that campaign has been going on for 3 days, I believe the SU has failed to endorse equality.

This raises two aspects: first, what has happened in previous SU elections when a VP stood for President and one. Two, The Square should attend tomorrows debate at City Bar to hold Yusuf and the SU to account and make sure Monwar knows that this is happening without him knowing.

I am willing to provide you with photographic evidence however; I would like to remain anonymous.

    Kind Regards,

    Petra
