Essay writing company targets City students after sneaking onto campus
An essay-writing company which charges students up to £1,800 for one assignment has been accused of trying to “exploit” struggling City students stressed before exams.
A woman from essay-writing firm Ivory Research was spotted handing out business cards earlier this month in Northampton Square.
The company, which claims to provide “100% plagiarism-free” papers, charges £360 for a 2,000-word first-class essay and a staggering £1,800 for a first-class dissertation.
According to one student, Ivory Research has picked the best time to capitalise on stress from heavy workloads.
She said: “They know that we are reaching the end of the second semester and they want to profit from that.
“When students struggle and can’t cope, they resort to desperate measures and that is exactly what this company wants to exploit.”
Journalism lecturer Sarah Lonsdale believes that essay-writing companies are a “growing problem”.
She said: “They say they offer 100% plagiarism-free essays, so they are aware that programmes such as Turnitin detect plagiarism.”
“They are preying on students who are being overburdened with work.”
Ivory Research claim that using their services “does not make you a cheat” and most of their customers have “a strong work ethic”.
City’s press office refused to comment when approached by The Square.
