Freshers’ Diary: Wednesday 21 September

:: It was the morning after the night before at City as freshers (and Students’ Union reps) arrived on campus following an early hours party at Shoreditch hotspot XOYO. Descending en masse to the trendy venue, the already somewhat spiffy City rabble must have looked quite a picture in their Get Mark’d t-shirts.

:: And boy did the pre-XOYO event produce some gems! The Square went along to the CityBar shindig to seek out the best lines scrawled across the room’s myriad white tops. One not-so-subtle dig at the all-male sabbatical team of Yusuf, Sheikh and Zain read: “Too many men in power #BringBackTheWomen”, while the President’s own t-shirt contained a particularly saucy message. Under the line “Wanna fuck da pres put number here:” there were precisely zero digits to be found.

:: Panic spread through the usually serene CityBar atmosphere when one crafty marker accused a new student of being “North Korea’s #1 secret agent”. But the title for best Get Mark’d line had to go to a girl who clearly missed the concept of the night altogether and instead wrote on someone “Enjoy City <3 Charlotte”. Never change Charlotte, never change.

:: Speaking of awards, the title for most bizarre freshers’ week event 2016 was given out today… to the Pokemon Go Wander. How a game that was popular for roughly one week in July is still being celebrated at City, we’re not quite sure.

:: Outdoors events seemed to be Wednesday’s theme as the petting zoo made its big return to Northampton Square. But the legacy of former SU President Rima Amin was missing one crucial element – where were the goats?! Apparently no one could find a delivery man to get them here. Instead, students were able to enjoy spending time in the company of rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens. But we are assured that everyone’s favourite goats will be making a triumphant return during the university’s Keep Calm and Study On week later in the year.

:: And for all those party-goers among you looking to be become one of City’s favoured BNOCs, tonight marks the year’s first sports social – The Playoffs. With cheap drinks, a packed dance floor and beer pong galore, things will surely get messy.
