One of City's toilets has been labelled a gay sex hotspot for staff, students... and even members of the public

The men’s ground floor toilets in City’s College Building have been labelled a gay sex hotspot for students and staff.

A recommendation for the lavatories on the website Cruising Gays describes the “crowd” as being “hot, cute students” and “staff”.

It has been viewed around 3000 times.

The listing states: “Can be quiet, so make date on wall. Security rarely patrol, but be careful as other students/staff use washroom.”

The website goes on to explain that the toilets are in a university – suggesting that the people meeting there are not City students.

Directions are even provided for people obviously not familiar with the university’s surroundings: “College building, enter main entrance, follow signs, toilet is ground floor level near spiral staircase.”

One City student, who asked to remain anonymous, was last year propositioned by a postgraduate who wanted to meet in the toilets.

He told The Square: “On a gay social media site called Grindr I was messaged by someone who went to City University and he was messaging me wanting some fun.

“It later came out that he wanted to cottage in the university toilets.”

Cottaging is a slang term for anonymous sex between two men in a public toilet.

The student said he felt “shocked” when he received the message.

He added: “It’s quite seedy to think that going into the toilets that sort of thing goes on there.”

Though he was unaware of the online recommendation, he said it was not something that surprised him.

He said: “If there are 3000 views online and someone asked me to cottage with them in a university toilet then yeah, I think it goes on.”
