“I kill you” – watch as City security guard threatens and allegedly assaults reporters investigating VC
A City security guard threatened and allegedly assaulted two reporters from The Square involved in the investigation into the vice-chancellor’s expenses, saying: “Let’s meet outside. I kill you.”
The security guard grabbed at the reporters’ phones twice while they were filming his shocking outburst in the College Building – while threatening to flush the devices down the toilet.
He also attempted to take three students’ City ID cards and escorted them to the entrance in an attempt to remove them from the campus. One reporter, who had forgotten his ID card, was told he was trespassing.

The guard had been instructed to take down The Square’s flyers promoting this week’s investigation into the vice-chancellor’s expenses.
He then followed reporters advertising the investigation to the first floor of the College Building – where the vice-chancellor’s office is located – and called for reinforcements.
One reporter had stuck posters to the office door – which were promptly torn down by a secretary, who branded them “pathetic”.
However, the guard continued his pursuit, demanding that all photos and videos of him be deleted, before putting his hand over the reporters cameras and taking their phones.
Soon after, two more security guards arrived – one of whom helped retrieve the phones from his colleague.
He proceeded to give the phones back to reporters, before grabbing them again after realising they were still filming as events unfolded.
Reception then intervened, helping the reporters retrieve their ID cards back from the security guard.
The incident came on the same day that Spiked magazine gave City the highest possible rating in its Free Speech University Rankings.
“City University London and City University Students’ Union collectively create a free and open environment for free speech,” it claimed.
This week, The Square is releasing a series of stories revealing shocking details of the vice-chancellor’s luxury lifestyle.
Yesterday, we reported how Curran racked up thousands of pounds in taxi expenses by taking journeys as little as half-a-mile long.
And on Monday, it was revealed that the vice-chancellor splurged £400 on one night in a Dubai hotel and has taken trips to Florida, Tel Aviv and Rio on expenses.
Tomorrow, we will report on how Curran has spent hundreds of thousands of pounds on refurbishments at his £2.5 million mansion in Myddelton Square – and how just 16% of City students actually know who he is.

Any logical society invests in it’s best brains by giving them the educational tools to go as far as they can and bring their generation further forward through their eventual expertise. Britain’s stopped doing this when student grants were axed, and then continued further on its path, time and again, with the introduction of ever-increasing tuition fees. To then take these same fees and squander them on someone who is not only a member of the 1% club, but has shown himself to be completely lacking in empathy with the decades-long financial squeeze today’s students will have to endure in order to pay back their loans, is morally abhorrent.
Ohhh this is sad. He’s my favourite security guard.
What I see in this video, is a couple of rather privileged media students harassing an older security guard who is being paid (probably not very much) to protect their safety.
Oh, him again. The same security guard who forcibly removed me from the music department while I was practicing, and pestered me for my ID card. I took his name down, and never got round to reporting it. I’m glad this has happened, because it’s just absurd.
I’d like to see the full, unedited video. Is this available? Presumably your journalists did something to provoke the situation in the first place. Not that I’m defending the guy
What’s with the one sided edit? Why not show the full video? I would have liked to have seen what the students said too
This is a horrible misrepresentation of a very sweet man, you should be ashamed of yourselfs.
